While I'm posting...How do these look in real life? These seem to be very of the moment. I'm seeing a lot of frosting-thick, verge of "bad" paintings that tip their hats to their academic roots. I mean like Dana Schutz, et al. Intense colors, angular foundations-style brushstrokes.
Also a lot of subject matter that is...post-slack?
I'm not saying I don't like it, just pointing out the trend. Just recently stripes, rainbows, and rays were cropping up everywhere, but now I detect a "movement" toward goopy.

Hey, I'm so glad some one is commenting on here. I'm a bit beside myself. But to respond; Yeah I know what you're talking about. I am a sucker for juicy paintings. There are those people who do it well.(Tomory Dodge too) The subject matter...well some post-slack can be wry and then I am attracted to it. But I miss a kind of earnestness in painting lately.

But anything is preferable to spawn of Mark Ryden.
